Independent Risk Assessment and Third-Party Reviews

BPP offers independent and objective risk assessment services, grounded in quantitative data and robust methodologies. Our approach focuses on evaluating the likelihood and consequences of major accident scenarios, ensuring risks are reduced to acceptable levels, as demonstrated in our confidential work for the UK MoD.

  • Quantitative Risk Assessment Methodology
  • We employ a rigorous risk assessment approach based on quantitative data to provide evidence-backed outcomes.
    • Our risk assessment approach is based on using rationally devised, quantitative data where available.
    • National and international incident databases are used to produce assessment outcomes that can be supported by evidence.
  • Major Accident Event Scenario Analysis
  • We analyse the likelihood and consequence of major accident scenarios and identify necessary mitigation measures.
    • Such work considers both likelihood and consequence of major accident event scenarios together with mitigation steps (barriers) required to reduce risks to acceptable levels (ALARP).
    • Often a bow-tie approach is used to develop such work with Monte-Carlo analysis employed for complex projects having multiple solution scenarios.
  • Confidential Defence Risk Studies
  • We have a proven track record of conducting confidential, high-impact risk studies for defence infrastructure.
    • BPP has previously carried out such studies for the UK MoD on a confidential project to examine very high-impact infrastructure and equipment risk.
    • Extensive experience in conducting engineering risk reviews for the London insurance market, applicable to the defence sector.
  • Verification and Validation Services
  • Independent assessment that defence products and/or systems can meet their specified requirements and function as intended. This includes identifying early risks, fitness for purpose, safety, functionality, reliability and quality.
